India-China Alternative Futures 

This project analyzes the roots of India-China security rivalry before and after the 2020 border crisis, employing Alternative Futures methodology to forecast various trajectories of their relations over the next decade. It examines the trade-offs between military balance at the LAC, development, status issues, and strategic autonomy.

This project is reviewing and categorizing the sources of India-China security competition prior to, and after, the April-June 2020 border crisis. The project uses the Alternative Futures methodology to envision different pathways that India-China relations can take in the next decade with regard to the Chinese security challenge, and also explore various trade-offs in terms of the military balance at the LAC, developmental interests, status concerns, and maintaining room for strategic autonomy.
