POLING – Political Opinion Analysis using Linguistic Data

The POLING project applies computational linguistics to analyze social media for political sentiment in India, covering Meitei, Malayalam, Hindi, and English. It aims to guide policy-making with real-time public opinions.

Social media is a significant tool for public engagement in India, with over 50% of the population using it. This is expected to rise to 67% by 2025. The POLING project uses computational linguistics techniques to gain real-time insights into the political sentiments of the population. Currently in the pilot phase, the project aims to create a sentiment analysis system for four languages – Meitei, Malayalam, Hindi, and English. The insights from the project can assist policymakers in formulating relevant policies and actions.
